[This note is mostly about the principle. For the related practice, see how to get revelations.]
Deterioration is a result of stagnation. It is the natural outcome of an imagination so captured by prior data that it cannot imagine anything new.
I’m going to keep this at a lower level, just for the sake of simplicity. Even when we talk about something like school learning, we see this principle in action. Learning is nothing but the expansion of being, the expansion of awareness and creation of knowledge in a being. The knowledge has already been found, to be sure, but learning is an act of creation. Those classroom experiences which do not lend themselves to creation lead to stagnation and boredom at the least.
Many industries and fields are ideologically captured by previous experience. That is why they deteriorate over time. New challenges, new situations demand creativity. Experience has to be created anew. And when industries and institutions fail to do so, they rot and die.
This is even true of spirituality. Experience is always created anew. If you chase after a prior experience, you will only have worse and lesser versions of it at best. Generally, you will never have it again. So, let go of it. Begin and create anew.
Vitality is expressed in creation. Stagnation is death.
