how to get revelations

When people write to me asking for inspiration regarding kundalini-energy meditation, I tell them the truth—that I have moved beyond a manipulative approach to meditation, preferring a participatory approach to my spiritual life. This question of participatory versus manipulative lies at the heart of my meditative practice these days, and I encourage you to take a close look at this theme as you advance on your own spiritual path.

[This note has been a long time coming, and I expect that I will be revising it often. The above quote is not the first time I’ve encountered the ideas that will make up the body of this note nor the first time I’ve experienced it. However, I find that it expresses everything quite nicely; even if you never read beyond this sentence, you will have found its essence.]

For additional details, please see the sister note on deterioration.

It’s very simple: you get them by not trying to get them. The more you try to grasp at it, the less you will have. I know it’s annoying, because everyone seems to tell you this, but I tell it to you again with absolute certainty. This is truth.

An angle that might make this clear is the concept from Conversations With God - Walsch that wishing and wanting only servers to move the object of your desire further and further away because it is the expression of your belief that you do not already have it. I’ll cover this in a future note1, but if you do not believe you have it, you will keep reaching for it. CWG recommends instead a prayer of thanks-giving (Please read Book 1 in depth for more detail).

Moving back to the point at hand. Every experience is new and has to be created anew. Do not try to grasp for that which has already passed (or past, haha). You have to start with a blank slate, you must start afresh. In the Zen world, this is called beginner’s mind.

If we choose to try to re-create what we already know (or rather, what we think we know), we’ve limited the Source of Creation. We have put a dam in the very energy that we need. Don’t be so quick to fall into ideological capture. That is, idea-logical capture (See Maharaj Ji, I can do it, too!). If we want to take the angle that Disappearance of the Universe - Renard takes2, then we could say that Love is eternal and its form is what changes.

It may take whichever form it pleases, so you have to be open to that. You have to truly co-create with it. Just as in any group project, you have to be open. Be comfortable not knowing what’s going to happen when you leave home, when you sit on the meditation cushion, or even when you go to sleep. You’ll enter a world of gratitude, praise, and amazement.

As I mentioned in the earlier note satgur, I cannot say more on the method besides what I’ve already said. You have to do it to truly find out. However, I will leave you with this:

The more that you open yourself, the more you will receive. You will receive more than you can even handle.

Do you think that these 41 notes (at the time of writing) are everything that I have been given? By God, no! I have been given so much, and I’ve captured so little. Even in capturing these ideas, I leave myself open to the Great Source. When I am motivated to write, only then do I write.

Coming to a conclusion, I believe that the requisite emotions and mental orientation can be summarized in what I believe is a paraphrase of Neale Donald Walsch’s Conversations with God:

I am open to a new experience of things.

And in doing so, it is important to not forget the ultimate goal (it may take you time to get here, and that is fine, too. Just know that one day you will find yourself here). I am to find God, I want to find Him. I find this passage from A Course in Miracles - Schumann, FIP expresses it perfectly:

The secret of true prayer is to forget the things you think you need. ²To ask for the specific is much the same as to look on sin and then forgive it. ³Also in the same way, in prayer you overlook your specific needs as you see them, and let them go into God’s Hands. ⁴There they become your gifts to Him, for they tell Him that you would have no gods before Him; no love but His.

In this case, too, forget your ideations and expectations. Be open to a new experience of What Is So.
