How is God in the World?
We talk of God being within the world at the same time as He is out of the world (ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ; ਦੁਯੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਸਾਜੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਆਸਣੁ ਡਿਠੋ ਚਾਉ ॥). In doing so, we are tempted to short-circuit the searching process by adding this belief to our belief system instead of actualizing it. In fact, we are just continuing our old ways of seeing.
We have to first understand that our conventional way of interacting with the world involves creating false relationships (ਮੋਹੁ). In this created world (ਜਗ ਰਚਨਾ ਸਭ ਝੂਠ ਹੈ ਜਾਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥), there is no God. Even if we try to Remain in presence, we will get lost in thought; we’ll be continuing the same relationship with the world. Everything is already made of thought and we’ll just end up back there without the proper change in thought.
In that sense, we do have to detach from the world (the world we know, not the world in general). This is what Guru Sahib means by: ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਜਿਨ ਕਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਤੁਟਾ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੈ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥.
We have to recognize that the world that we’re seeing with our own eyes it’s just a function of our mind. It’s false. What is true is not something we can know because our ways of knowing or false. So there has to be a certain period of detachment. God is in the world, but not the world that we see.
