How to Read
I read not to accumulate facts and neither does an author write to communicate them. The medium of information is meant to transmit knowledge, and Knowledge tends towards unity. Knowledge has to become part of me. So, an important part of reading is actually generating. I read to bring something out of me—I read to create my knowledge. From this perspective, the author’s quotes and ideas are merely context for my generation.
I don’t really collect much of anything from my reading these days. The whole practice is a practice of generation now. It is another form of prayer/meditation/worship for me these days.
