imperfect practices lead to perfection
Any practice done sincerely, even if slightly or largely mistaken, leads to the true(r) and deep(er) practice.
For example, I have learned the outer rituals of my religion from childhood. I did not need to start at that level. Instead, I needed to just sit down silently and first observe what was happening. From this observation, I got realization. Then, I moved into the second phase: trying to be with the now (see The Power of Now - Tolle); I wanted to live my life fully, to not let a single moment go to waste. Finally, I moved into practicing ਅਕਾਲ (timelessness) or seeing beyond the illusion. It took about a year to move through these three phases.
